{"id":192,"date":"2014-04-20T15:56:36","date_gmt":"2014-04-20T15:56:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wesleyhallplumstead.org.uk\/wp\/?p=192"},"modified":"2016-06-14T07:30:52","modified_gmt":"2016-06-14T07:30:52","slug":"memories-of-edith-hawthorne","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wesleyhallplumstead.org.uk\/wp\/?p=192","title":{"rendered":"Memories of Edith Hawthorne"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Raymond [minister in charge: 1988 to 1994] and I came to Shooters Hill Circuit from overseas and wondered how we would adjust to being back in English Methodism.\u00a0 The warm, loving welcome that we received made things easier and we were very grateful to you all.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>At the beginning, I didn\u2019t travel round the Circuit very much, but always felt at home when I did come to Wesley Hall.\u00a0 Half way through Raymond\u2019s ministry there he had to go into hospital.\u00a0 I had just started training as a local preacher, going with Pat Spilsbury to share in services, and on that day I preached my first sermon.\u00a0 It was at Wesley Hall.<\/p>\n<p>It was the first sermon I had written and being the first time I had tried preaching , I was very nervous and my mind was also on Raymond, so I shudder to think what it was like!\u00a0 However, you were all very supportive and tried to convince me that it had been fine.
